Explosions Hit Iran’s Qeshm Island as US Media Reports Defensive Strikes in Strait of Hormuz.

Qeshm Island explosions were heard late Monday night as multiple blasts hit Iran’s strategic island in the Strait of Hormuz…

Multiple explosions were heard on Iran’s strategic Qeshm Island and the nearby coastal city of Bandar Lengeh late on Monday night, amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian state media and US news outlets have reported conflicting details, but both confirm a major security incident in one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

What Happened on Qeshm Island?

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, at least five explosions were heard in quick succession on Qeshm Island late Monday, November 2. Residents told IRNA they saw two aircraft flying over the island at the time of the blasts.

The semi-official Fars News Agency also reported explosions in Bandar Lengeh, a port city west of Qeshm Island. Fars said the sound came from the direction of the sea.

Iranian authorities have not confirmed casualties or damage so far.

US Media: Limited Defensive Strikes by US Military

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed US officials, reported that the US military carried out limited strikes on Qeshm Island overnight.According to the report, the operation was described as “defensive” in nature.

US officials said the strikes were aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to target commercial vessels and US assets in the Strait of Hormuz.Reports from Associated Press, Fox News and Axios added that the strikes targeted surface-to-air missile batteries after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) allegedly fired at a US military aircraft on Monday.

US officials said the strikes were kept deliberately small and quiet to avoid signaling a full-scale military campaign against Iran

Iran Claims: Shot Down US Drones Before Blasts

Just hours before the explosions, Iran’s IRGC made a separate claim.

The IRGC Aerospace Force said it had brought down three US drones near the Strait of Hormuz using electronic warfare systems. According to Press TV, this included two MQM-170 reconnaissance drones south of Qeshm Island and one MQ-9 drone east of the Strait

The IRGC Navy also claimed it captured another drone intact west of the Strait. These claims have not been independently verified by the US.

Why Qeshm Island Matters?

Qeshm Island is the largest island in the Persian Gulf and sits right at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz.

The island is just 25 km off Bandar Abbas and houses key Iranian military infrastructure, including naval bases, underground missile tunnels, drone facilities and air defence batteries.About 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz daily.

Any military activity around Qeshm Island directly impacts global energy security and oil prices. This is not the first time the island has been targeted. Qeshm was previously hit in June during earlier US-Iran escalations.

What Happens Next?

Tensions remain high. While US officials describe the action as defensive, Iran has warned US warships against entering the Persian Gulf.

US Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that Washington sees “progress” in talks with Iran, suggesting diplomacy is still on the table despite the strikes. For now, both sides have not issued official statements confirming the full extent of damage.

We are monitoring the situation closely. Stay tuned to straitofharmuz.co for live updates on Strait of Hormuz tensions.

The Qeshm Island explosions mark a serious escalation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, the Qeshm Island explosions were heard near Iranian naval bases, raising concerns over global oil prices and shipping routes.

US Iran War Today: US-Iran war enters 9th month as President Donald Trump warns of fresh strike as early as Sunday Oct 25.

US Iran War Today: Live Update From Strait of Hormuz

US Iran War Update Today: US-Iran War enters its 9th month as President Donald Trump warns of a fresh strike as early as Sunday, October 25, while Iran vows to block all US warships from the Persian Gulf.

Alternative short title if you want:
Trump Warns Of Fresh Iran Strike As Early As Sunday, Iran Says US Navy Will Never Enter Gulf

US-Iran War enters its 9th month as President Donald Trump warns of a fresh strike as early as Sunday, October 25, while Iran vows to block all US warships from the Persian Gulf.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday, October 24, after casting his ballot in Florida midterm elections, said Washington is considering a new attack on Iran that could happen “maybe tomorrow”.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “Do you really think I’m going to tell you if I’m going to do it? There’s a possibility I will. There’s also a possibility we’ll have a nice, big, beautiful agreement. They want to make a deal, but the problem is, will they hold the deal?”

US Iran War Today Trump Warns Strike Tomorrow

US Iran War Today

Trump praised US forces saying they have “knocked out every jet fighter of Iran. 259 ships are at the bottom of the sea”.

Iran’s Strong Response – Persian Gulf Ban

Iran’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff Maj Gen Ali Abdollahi on Saturday said Iran will never allow US military ships to enter the Persian Gulf “under any circumstances”

He added: “We will not allow US military ships in the Persian Gulf under any circumstances and at any time. The US president must dream of seeing the armed forces enter the Persian Gulf. He will take that dream to his grave”.

The IRGC Navy also claimed that two supertankers carrying more than 4.5 million barrels of crude oil were abandoned at sea after hitting mines near the Strait of Hormuz while trying to use an “illegal” southern route

Strait of Hormuz Standoff

The conflict began on February 28 when US and Israel launched strikes against Iran, disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil and gas.

Iran has denied reports from a Saudi outlet that it offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the US naval blockade. IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency called those reports “a lie and fabrication”.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran’s earlier 7-day proposal to reopen Hormuz is still on the table.

War Preparation:-

Trump is preparing for escalation after the US midterm elections on Nov 3. He has already sent a third aircraft carrier strike group and 10,000 additional sailors and Marines toward the Persian Gulf.

The war has also widened – Houthis claimed attacks on Aden naval base and seven locations across Saudi Arabia, while missile debris fell on Mecca and Jeddah, prompting a US Level 3 travel advisory in Riyadh.

What Next?

Trump says preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon remains the central objective. He said US might have to “finish the job” if negotiations fail.

US Iran War Update Today has major impact on global oil prices. The Strait of Hormuz handles 20% of world oil supply. Iran’s move to ban US warships and hit tankers with mines has raised insurance costs for shipping companies.

US Treasury Secretary said oil exports from Gulf have surpassed pre-conflict levels despite tensions. Experts say if Trump launches another strike tomorrow, oil could cross $100. Meanwhile, talks via Pakistan mediators continue. Iran says it wants full end to war, not interim deals. US sends third aircraft carrier to Gulf as preparation. Stay tuned for live updates.

What Happened to Flydubai Flight FZ1073?

Flydubai Flight FZ1073 Cockpit Struggle – What Officials Are Saying.

Flydubai Flight FZ1073 Timeline

Lead:
Flydubai Flight FZ1073 was forced to make an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia on September 30, 2026 after a violent cockpit altercation.A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv carrying up to 180 people, mostly Israeli nationals, plunged 17,400 feet in under two minutes and was forced to make an emergency landing in Tabuk,

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after a violent struggle inside the cockpit. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a pilot stabbed his colleague and tried to crash the aircraft in what Israel is calling “a most serious security incident” and an attempted jihadist terror attack.Flydubai Flight FZ1073

What Happened:Flydubai Flight FZ1073,

a Boeing 737 MAX 8, departed Dubai International (DXB) at approximately 07:00 local time, bound for Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv.

About two hours into the flight, while over Jordanian airspace, the aircraft transmitted squawk code 7700 – the international signal for a general emergency. Minutes later, it transmitted 7500, the code for unlawful interference / hijacking.Flydubai Flight FZ1073

Flightradar24 data confirmed extreme fluctuations. The aircraft dropped from ∼34,000 feet to ∼17,000 feet. CNN’s graphic puts the drop at 17,400 feet in just under two minutes. Other tracking data cited by Israeli media reported a near-vertical rate of up to 30,976 ft/min and a 14,000 ft drop in less than 30 seconds before the first alert.

The flight was diverted to Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport (TUU) in Tabuk, northwestern Saudi Arabia, landing safely at 09:45 local time. The Cockpit Struggle – Flydubai Flight FZ1073

What Officials Are Saying:Flydubai’s official statement is cautious:

“An altercation occurred in the flight deck of flight FZ1073. The aircraft was successfully secured by on-duty flydubai crew travelling on the flight, who diverted and landed the aircraft safely at Tabuk Airport. Flydubai Flight FZ1073

All passengers and crew are safe and accounted for. At this early stage, the underlying reasons and motives behind this event are unknown and remain subject to a formal investigation.”

The Cockpit Struggle – What Officials Are Saying:Flydubai Flight FZ1073

Flydubai’s official statement is cautious:

“An altercation occurred in the flight deck of flight FZ1073. The aircraft was successfully secured by on-duty flydubai crew travelling on the flight, who diverted and landed the aircraft safely at Tabuk Airport. All passengers and crew are safe and accounted for. At this early stage, the underlying reasons and motives behind this event are unknown and remain subject to a formal investigation.”

Israeli officials have given a far more dramatic account.Flydubai Flight FZ1073

In a video statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said:

“The co-pilot of a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv tried to crash the plane after stabbing the pilot, but passengers then held him down while other pilots landed the plane safely… This is a most serious security incident.”

According to Netanyahu, quoting a passenger who was on board:

1:The aircraft “entered a tailspin and began to dive.”

2.Passengers and an off-duty crew member broke into the cockpit.

3.They found the co-pilot “trying to sabotage the plane’s systems” after stabbing the captain.

4.An additional air crew member – described as on-duty flydubai crew deadheading – entered and stabilized the aircraft.

Netanyahu added: “I salute these heroes who showed exceptional resourcefulness and courage. They saved many lives and prevented a major disaster. All passengers are out of harm’s way.”

Defence Minister Israel Katz called it “an attempted jihadist terror attack thwarted only thanks to the heroism of several Israeli passengers.”

Pilots – Conflicting Reports:

There are two conflicting, unverified tracks on pilot identity that your article must note as unconfirmed:

Track 1 – Israeli Official / Hindustan Times / Arab News: The injured captain is an Indian national who fought back and prevented a 9/11-style attack. The alleged attacker is the first officer, an Omani national, who was arrested by Saudi authorities in Tabuk and taken to hospital. He was also injured in the struggle.

Track 2 – N12 / Channel 12 / Times of Israel:

The conflict was between a Russian captain and a Ukrainian co-pilot, and may have been related to the ongoing war or a suicide attempt, not terrorism. This version says one pilot lost consciousness during the fight.

Saudi aviation operator Cluster2 confirmed: “The captain and first officer sustained injuries, and were immediately transferred to hospital.”No independent confirmation of nationality or motive has been released by Flydubai, GCAA, or Saudi authorities.

Passengers’ Account:

Passengers told Channel 12 and i24NEWS:

“We heard screams on the plane. Then they opened the cockpit, and we saw blood, and someone had stabbed the pilot with a pocketknife… We prayed, ‘Shema Yisrael.’ There were moments when we thought we weren’t going to make it out alive.”

Another passenger, Noam, said: “Screams began on the plane… We understand that one of the pilots was stabbed and seriously wounded, and they lost control of the plane. It started to dive quickly. It was very scary.

“Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, praised passengers for “extraordinary determination and resourcefulness.”

Immediate Aftermath:

Israel’s response: The IDF scrambled fighter jets, temporarily closed airspace, and held an emergency security consultation with Netanyahu and Katz. The PM’s office later said the incident is “under control.”Saudi Arabia:

Tabuk airport received a distress call at 08:44 local. Saudi authorities have arrested the suspect pilot and are interrogating him.UAE / Flydubai:

Deployed two replacement aircraft to Tabuk to bring 174-180 passengers (including 27 children per some reports) and crew home. A second flight on the same route, FZ1081, turned back to Dubai hours later – reason unknown.

Investigation:

A joint investigation is underway by Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the UAE. Flydubai urged “all parties to refrain from premature speculation.”

Why It Matters for the Strait of Hormuz Region:

This is the most serious security incident on the Dubai-Tel Aviv corridor since the Abraham Accords opened the route in 2020. It raises critical questions for Gulf aviation security: how a weapon – described as a folding / pocketknife – entered a cockpit, the vetting of crews on politically sensitive routes, and the precedent of an Israel-bound flight making an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, a country with no formal diplomatic ties but growing security coordination with Israel.

Gyanesh Kumar CEC Controversy Explained: 14 Objections, SIR Row, What Congress, BJP and ECI Are Saying.

Gyanesh Kumar CEC Controversy: What Did The Investigation Report Say?

Gyanesh Kumar CEC Controversy: What Congress, BJP and Election Commission Are Saying?

Gyanesh Kumar CEC controversy has rocked the Election Commission of India after an investigation report revealed serious internal dissent inside the poll body over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who took charge in February 2025, is facing demands for removal from Congress, TMC and CPI(M) after The Indian Express investigation claimed that his two colleagues, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, raised formal objections at least 14 times in 10 months.

What Did The Investigation Report Say?

The Core AllegationsThe Indian Express report, published on September 23, 2026, accessed internal file notings and correspondence of the Election Commission of India. According to the report:

The Gyanesh Kumar CEC controversy has now become the biggest issue before Bihar elections.

1. 14 Objections in 10 Months:
Election Commissioners Sandhu and Joshi recorded dissent or objections on file at least 14 times between October 2024 and August 2025. On one day, four separate objections were filed, showing deep disagreement. Both ECs claimed some decisions and orders were issued without their knowledge or without placing files before them.

  1. Form 6 Controversy — The Biggest Issue:
The report said ECI’s ECINet portal added a new question to Form 6, which is used by 18+ citizens to register as new voters. The new question asked: “Whether your own name or your parent/grandparent’s name appears in the electoral roll of last SIR exercise?”EC Sandhu described this change as “unauthorised and illegal” and demanded its immediate removal. EC Joshi said any change in Form 6 requires amendment to Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 under Section 28 of Representation of People Act, 1950, and cannot be done by executive order. Opposition says this question was meant to link SIR to citizenship proof.
  1. Voter Data and Centralisation Concerns:
The report claimed both ECs raised concerns about centralisation of electoral-roll database and software management. Earlier, electoral roll management was decentralized at CEO level in states. The new system centralised access to ECINet in Delhi. Both commissioners separately wrote to the Cabinet Secretary, flagging changes in work allocation that reduced a layer of oversight of the IT system supporting electoral rolls.
  1. Deletion, Restoration and Appeals:
Other objections included addition of new voters without proper verification, deletion and restoration of names during SIR, and handling of appeals under Section 22 and 23 of RP Act. ECs questioned why bulk deletions were happening in some states during SIR without proper hearings.

What Congress and Opposition Are Saying?

Opposition made Gyanesh Kumar CEC controversy a major political issue ahead of Bihar polls and 2026 state elections.

Congress: Senior leader K.C. Venugopal posted on X: “CEC Gyanesh Kumar has no right to remain in office. How can one person remove lakhs of voters’ names and sideline other two constitutional functionaries? We demand immediate removal and Supreme Court-monitored probe.” Congress alleged SIR is being used to delete poor, minority and migrant voters who don’t have legacy documents.

TMC: National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee demanded removal of CEC and court-monitored investigation. He alleged disenfranchisement is being done to benefit BJP and that ECI is acting as “BJP’s branch office”. TMC is already fighting ECI in Supreme Court over SIR in Bengal.

CPI(M): Sitaram Yechury’s party demanded CEC step down, halt SIR exercise immediately, and reform ECI. Said report shows “collapse of institutional integrity” and “serious questions on how elections are conducted.”

kapil Sibal: Rajya Sabha MP said: “The report shows majority was not with Gyanesh Kumar. He was taking decisions arbitrarily according to his own whims. This is unconstitutional.”Opposition has also cited former CEC SY Quraishi’s statement that ECI must work on consensus, not majority.

What BJP and Election Commission Are Saying? ECI Clarification

Election Commission of India’s Official Response:

ECI issued clarification on September 24 through sources and press note:

“Reports of dissent are factually incorrect. Differing observations and file notings are part of healthy internal deliberations. All decisions of the Commission, including all SIR-related decisions in last 1 year, were UNANIMOUS decisions of the full Commission comprising CEC and 2 ECs.”

ECI officials told PTI that concerns raised by Sandhu and Joshi about deletion in some districts and database security were discussed in full commission meetings and resolved. They said Form 6 addition was only for data analysis and not mandatory, and was later removed after internal discussion.ECI also said under Transaction of Business Rules, CEC allocates work and can issue orders, but policy decisions are taken by full commission by majority.

BJP’s Stand:

BJP defended ECI and CEC. BJP spokesperson said: “ECI is a constitutional body. Internal file notings should not be leaked and called dissent. Congress is pressuring constitutional institutions because they fear losing elections. SIR is needed to clean fake voters and Bangladeshi infiltrators.”BJP also pointed that UPA had appointed Gyanesh Kumar as IAS officer and he served in Home Ministry under Amit Shah, but his appointment as CEC was as per new law passed by Parliament.

Legal and Constitutional Position — Can CEC Be Removed?

Gyanesh Kumar CEC controversy has also raised legal questions. Under Article 324(5) of Constitution, CEC can be removed only in like manner and on like grounds as Supreme Court judge — i.e., by Parliament with two-thirds majority on ground of proved misbehaviour or incapacity. Election Commissioners can be removed on recommendation of CEC.So opposition demand for removal is legally very difficult unless government agrees. Supreme Court can monitor ECI functioning but cannot remove CEC directly. Opposition may file petition seeking independent probe into SIR.

Why Gyanesh Kumar CEC Controversy Matters for 2026 Elections?

This controversy matters because:

1.SIR decides who votes: Special Intensive Revision 2025-26 is happening in 12 states including Bihar, Bengal, Tamil Nadu before 2026 Assembly polls. If voter lists are flawed, election result itself is questioned.

2.Trust in ECI: ECI is world’s largest election management body. Internal split of this scale — 14 objections — has never been reported before. Former CECs like T.N. Seshan, S.Y. Quraishi always stressed unanimity.

3.Data Security: Centralisation of 97 crore voters’ data is sensitive. Any breach or misuse can have national security implications.

4.Precedent: If report is true, it shows CEC took decisions without majority — which is violation of Supreme Court judgment in TN Seshan case (1995) which said CEC is first among equals, not superior to ECs.

Conclusion

Gyanesh Kumar CEC controversy is not just about one officer but about institutional integrity of Election Commission. While investigation report says 2 ECs objected 14 times, ECI says all decisions were unanimous.

Truth will be known only if file notings are made public or Supreme Court orders probe. For now, SIR exercise continues and ECI has said it will complete revision as per schedule. Congress has said it will raise issue in Parliament winter session and seek discussion.

DUBAI, Sept 21, 2026 –

Strait of Hormuz tanker attack confirmed on September 21, 2026, as the Isle of Man-flagged tanker LR Stephanie was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the strategic waterway, leaving two crew members with minor injuries.

Maritime security firm Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the LR Stephanie, a 72,825 DWT tanker operated by Universal Tankers of Greece. This Strait of Hormuz tanker attack is the fourth such incident in just five days, highlighting the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the world’s most critical oil chokepoint. In a second incident on the same day, UKMTO reported an LPG tanker was hit by debris from unknown projectiles. The master reported all crew safe and no pollution.

Timeline of Recent Attacks

This latest Strait of Hormuz tanker attack follows a series of escalations. On September 17-18, a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker suffered a hull breach and onboard fire after being struck. The fire was extinguished and all crew were reported safe. On the same day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for striking the Togo-flagged tanker Trend, alleging it attempted to transit without authorization.

Operation Economic Outcast and US Response:-
The Strait of Hormuz tanker attack comes just days after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Operation Economic Outcast. On September 8, the U.S. sanctioned 27 remaining Iranian airlines, and on September 21 Bessent warned that on September 23, all Iranian airlines will be shut down globally. He warned that any airport providing fuel, landing services, or ticket sales to Iranian carriers will be knocked out of the dollar system.US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins told Al Jazeera that U.S. forces have assisted commercial vessels carrying more than 900 million barrels of crude oil through the strait since early May, and redirected over 100 ships attempting to breach the U.S. blockade.

Impact on Global Shipping and Oil:-
The frequency of this Strait of Hormuz tanker attack has caused a collapse in traffic. Reuters data shows only 17 commodity vessels transited the Strait over the weekend of Sept 20-21, compared to 37 a week earlier and a pre-war average of 125 vessels per day. The Strait of Hormuz handles approximately 20% of the world’s daily oil consumption. The United States and Iran have been in a state of conflict since late February when US-Israeli strikes targeted Iran’s leadership, prompting Tehran to block the Strait of Hormuz, sending oil prices soaring.

UKMTO Advisory:-
UKMTO advises all vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise extreme caution, transit with AIS on, and report any suspicious activity immediately to UKMTO on VHF Channel 16. Authorities are investigating this latest Strait of Hormuz tanker attack.

Impact of Strait of Hormuz Tanker Attack on Oil Prices
The repeated Strait of Hormuz tanker attack is already pushing global oil prices higher. Brent crude jumped 3.2% after UKMTO confirmed the LR Stephanie incident. Analysts warn that if these attacks continue, insurance premiums for vessels transiting the Strait will rise by 200-300%, directly impacting fuel prices in India, Pakistan, and across Asia. The Strait remains the world’s most important energy chokepoint.

Merchant Mariner bulker flooding Dung Quat Vietnam incident has put a giant capesize bulk carrier in distress off the coast of Vietnam. Authorities at Quang Ngai Port are working on an emergency plan to offload the vessel after it started taking on water.

The incident happened on Friday morning, September 19, 2026, as the bulker Merchant Mariner was inbound for the industrial port of Dung Quat, home to the giant Hoa Phat steel plant.

According to The Maritime Executive, the ship had a cargo of 174,000 tonnes of Malaysian iron ore on board, with a draft of about 18.4 meters.

Merchant Mariner hits reef? AIS data shows sudden speed drop

At about 1130 hours, the crew contacted local authorities and reported flooding in three ballast tanks, potentially caused by contact with a reef at a position about 15 nautical miles off the port.

AIS data provided by Pole Star Global shows that the vessel passed through shallower water with isolated soundings of as little as 18 meters. While transiting this area, she slowed suddenly from 10.5 to five knots, then regained speed.

The Maritime Authority said the ship went to anchor and continued to settle lower in the water through the day, her draft increasing to 19.7 meters at the stern by Friday evening.

The crew were instructed to close off tank valves as a precautionary measure, and a tug was put on standby.
